Community Regeneration   Project for a new Children’s   Sports Centre

Organised by the Commonwealth Association of Architects this brief allowed entrants to choose their own site for a sports centre to regenerate a community and respond to a social agenda. Our chosen site in Oldham, Manchester, has been the centre of racial tension and violence for several years.

The building aims to provide local Manchester school children with a facility for development and interaction between ethnic groups. The concept focuses the sports around a central courtyard formed by the natural topography. Each facade reponds to the context, with a Corten wall linking the various parts.
