Boatyard, Artist Studios &        Galleries at Wakefield

This was designed by Jason Eccles as part of the Part II thesis at Newcastle University.
The Boatyard is a building that strives to embody the ethos of Wakefield's regeneration strategy. Incorporating a working boatyard, artist’s studios, galleries and boat exhibition it provides Wakefield with a southern gateway where canal and river meet.

The building is a celebration of the waterways, acting as a reminder of their historical importance to the city. An overhead crane can pick up the decorated narrowboats and carry them through to be placed in the exhibition. In a similar process, local artists
sit above the boatyard and display their work in public galleries.
