A bespoke, highly crafted house extension in Wilmslow that connects to the landscaped setting.

Artform were approached by the client who were looking for a fresh approach to the project after a previous design had failed to hit the mark. The priority was to enlarge the existing house to create a large family space overlooking the mature garden at ground floor as well as a re modelling and extension of the bedroom spaces at first floor.

Our approach was to re-align the ground floor of the house and orientate the extension to create long views down the full length of the garden. This in turn led to a cranked, angular plan and a distinctive, highly contextual appearance. In contrast to the original brick facade, the new design is transparent and distinctive. The internal spaces flow seamlessly to the outside with a raised terrace and stepped landscaping helping to ground the extension into the site.

Timber clad canopies form a continuous band across the top of the extension and provide the house with solar shading. This offers a soft, natural aesthetic that perfectly compliments the grey brickwork and lush garden setting.

The design of this project has changed the way our clients live in the space and has connected them to the outside space in a way that was previously not possible. By prioritising natural light, views and connectivity the scheme has delivered a contemporary, highly crafted home that improves their well-being and truly reaches out to its context.
